LEANING PROPS
This work focuses on the vacant space between functionality and sculpture. I explore gesture and posture associated with the body and object. I have taken the functional role of the seat and developed it into an object that deals with resting the body in a vertical position. The work has been given the generic title of “ The Leaning Props”. This work was the basis of my PhD degree, where the idea of the Leaning Post or Prop came about through growing up in the region of the North West Coast, Tasmania where I observed how people had a casual manner of leaning onto objects while participating in social discourse. This concept has been tested in public spaces, Wellington Court, Hobart and the Ashley Detention Centre, Deloraine. Works have also been acquired privately with one work being part to the MONA collection in Hobart, Tasmania
